The Salzburg-based medical technology company medPhoton (www.medphoton.at) together with BrainLAB AG, Munich, presented LoopX – the first mobile intraoperative imaging robot – at several congresses in the USA and Europe (www.brainlab.com/loop-X). To ensure the further growth of medPhoton, Brainlab has co-financed this product development and strategically invested in the Salzburg company.

medPhoton develops and produces innovative robotic imaging solutions for navigated applications in surgery, interventional radiology and radiotherapy. The company was founded as a spin-off from Paracelsus Medical University and the Salzburg State Hospital (SALK) in 2012 in Salzburg and employs 50 people.

Dr. Jörg Stein (M&P) supported medPhoton as interim CFO from 2015 until Brainlab’s entry into the company. In this function he ensured the financing of the company’s growth through a mix of subsidies, mezzanine capital and loans with a volume of several million Euros, accompanied the entry of Brainlab AG and was responsible for medPhoton’s marketing and sales activities.

Brainlab develops, produces and distributes software-supported medical technology and thus enables access to optimized, more efficient and minimally invasive patient treatments. Brainlab’s technology can be used to advance developments in neurosurgery, radiosurgery and other surgical disciplines.
